Created in 1879, ‘Les oiseaux’ is a decor from our archives that has been carefully preserved for almost 150 years. The intertwined foliage takes us to a European forest where foliage and birds embody with great delicacy and depth the quivering of the day. Chickadees and sparrows respond to each other in a poetic ‘song of the world’. Worked in 3 colours, this historic décor, originally gouache-painted in 17 colours, has been restored with the invaluable help of Francesco Batista. This drawing, a classic painting from the second half of the 19th century, exudes great serenity and has now been added to our Heritage collection, much to our delight.
