Bibliothèque(s) is a work by Carole Benzaken, originally created for the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire. The artist captures what she sees as the very essence of the library: a place of lightness and depth, where several worlds silently rub shoulders, where it's so easy to travel simply by turning through a few pages. Transposed into wallpaper, her work becomes an architectural experiment. The volume of the bookcase becomes a decorative flat surface, a graphic all-over. The volume of the bookcase becomes a decorative flat surface, a graphic all-over. It can then be used to hang pictures, shelves and even a real bookcase, creating an amusing dialogue between representation and reality. Like the physical book that fades into the invisible of the digital, Carole Benzaken's work questions the real and the immaterial, and our place between these two worlds.
