2. Preparing the wall
The wall to be covered must be dry, clean and even. If the wall is painted, lightly sand the paint to ensure that the paste adheres well. If the surface is porous or if it is a new wall, apply an undercoat to protect the wall and make it absorbent. In the case of a wallpaper with a light background, the base wall should be white.
3. Cheking your order
Before starting to install, inspect the stripes of your décor: size, colour, position of the pattern and connection. The strips are numbered to make installation easier, so all you have to do is place them in the right order.
4. Clean hands
Throughout the process, it's important to keep your hands clean to make sure you do not get any dirt on the decor. If you find any fingerprints after you have finished, you can use a magic sponge. You can also prepare a bucket of water and a sponge in case of glue stains on the support or to keep the material clean.
5.Wallpaper adhesive
Prepare the adhesive suited to the type of paper you have chosen (non-woven wallpaper, reinforced wallpaper, etc), following the quantities indicated by the manufacturer.
6.Drawing a point of reference on the wall
Installing the first stripe is important, as it determines the rest of the installation. Strip no. 1 must be installed perfectly straight so that the end result is not tilted.
To do this, it is essential not to use the angle of the wall or ceiling as a guide, but rather to use a plumb line. Draw a light, perfectly vertical line the width of your strip: this will be your reference point for applying stripe no. 1.
7.Pasting the wall area
You will not need a wallpapering table, as the adhesive is applied directly to the wall to be covered.
Using a roll or special brush, generously apply the adhesive to the area to be covered with the first stripe. Finally, apply the wallpaper directly.
8.Stripe no. 1
Position the design at the desired height and unroll the stripe from floor to ceiling, following the vertical markings. Using your wallpapering brush, press out the air from the inside to the outside. This will also remove any excess glue.
If there are glue stains on the paper, gently remove the excess with a humid sponge.
9.Next stripes
For the second stripe, glue the wall as before and unroll it. Apply this stripe edge to edge, without overlapping it with the previous one, ensuring that the design matches. You can proceed in the same way for the rest of your decor.
10.Finishing touches
Use an seam roller on the joints to ensure a smooth transition between each of the stripes. This will flatten the edges and, if necessary, remove any remaining air bubbles.
If you notice that the edges are not sticking well in certain places, do not hesitate to reapply glue with your small brush.
Finally, cut off the excess paper at the top, bottom and sides using a ruler or a coating knife and a cutter: hold your ruler at the corner (wall-baseboard or wall-ceiling, for example) and cut all the way along with your cutter.
